I don’t know about you, but I always find buying presents a challenge these days. Sometimes, you know that perfect something for someone special, exactly what to buy for that upcoming 50th or 40th birthday, but other times you rack your brains for days, nothing seeming quite right. Mothers Day is, once again, just round the corner. In years gone by I would be busy helping my boys old primary school, setting up for a Mothers Day plant sale. I used to love doing this. It was a challenge as their old school was huge! working out exactly how many plants you needed to make sure something like 800 children, could buy a plant for their Mum or special person in their life wasn’t easy, but we did it, year after year and the kids just loved it. These days, as the boys have moved schools, I no longer get involved in this but still love seeing the pictures my friends share. For me, something I will always treasure is pictures of my children. Im in the fortunate place that I can take these myself, although that has its issues, of course, I’m never in these pictures and you can […]

Yep, sadly this title is indeed correct!! It’s taken me until now to write this blog post. Last summer saw me spend two nights in the beautiful lavender fields at The Hop Shop, Castle Farm, Shoreham. This place is amazing; the summer sees visitors come from far and wide to take tours of the fields, have picnics among the lavender or take advantage of a truly relaxing lavender massage in a special area in one of the lavender fields.  This was the second year I had booked to photograph my clients here. Last year I spent one evening photographing families and had an absolute blast. This year I booked two nights, and could have booked a third if it had been possible to fit this into my crazy July schedule. My priority booking list already has enough names on it for 5 full evenings of shoots here. I’ll be getting in touch with everyone as soon as the farm lets me know the possible dates.  Shoots are always in mid to late July and run in the evenings between 5.30-8.30PM. I always try to book shoots after the schools have broken up for summer – that way, no one needs to worry […]

This bunch were loads of fun. We had booked in this photoshoot quite ahead of time and I was really looking forward to meeting them. The family were a friend of a good friend of mine, and included her husband and two children (with another on the way), her brother and his wife and new baby and Nanny and Grandad, (who the children call Nonno & Nonna). We were really lucky with the weather, a beautiful early autumn September’s day greeted us as we met in the car park at Hall Place.  I love this place as a venue for my photoshoots, especially my extended family ones. There are so many different places to capture wonderful shots and it really is just like going for a nice family walk with me tagging along to capture the day. We started at my favourite line of trees, a perfect straight line that all the little ones like playing peek-a-boo round. I was also able to get some lovely relaxed and candid shots of the adults; they were not paying me any attention as they thought I was busy taking photos of the kids which gave me a great opportunity to snap away, […]

Back in October (yes, this is how far behind I am!) I met with this lovely family who live really close to Greenwich Park. I love shooting at Greenwich, it’s the most beautiful place and a perfect back drop for the outdoor part of a family shoot. I love the fact that, if the weather plays ball, you can get some great shots with the London skyline in the background, and of course, all the amazing architecture around the naval college and observatory, not to mention the spectacular natural beauty of the place. We arranged to meet early on the day the clocks went back and I was soon parked up and saying hello to the most amazing little man and his lovely Mum and Dad. This little chap was absolutely fascinating to talk to; his knowledge of the world around him was incredible and don’t even get me started on his fantastic reading skills! I was blown away by the books he was reading, he clearly loves it and it showed through when he shared a book with Mum and Dad while I took some pictures. I was able to capture some great, authentic moments with him and Mum […]

With Fathers’ Day behind us, I wanted to share a few shots from some of my Fathers Day mini sessions which took place over a couple of very wet and rainy days at Lesnes Abbey in Abbeywood. I absolutely adore this place; the history mixed with the modern back drop of the urban areas of local Thamesmead make a really interesting location for a family lifestyle shoot. Fathers’ Day shoots tend to be booked for 2 main reasons: firstly to get some lovely pictures of Dad with his children, or to have pictures of the children taken to give to Dad as a present. Both are wonderful ideas and lets face it, there is no better present for Mum or Dad (or grandparents) than pictures of their children! I had been watching avidly the weather forecast in the lead up to these shoots – at one point I was looking at 5 different weather apps and speaking to my wonderful Dad who, up until very recently, was a pilot and has an exemplary record forecasting the weather and is often my “go to” weather advisor. The shoots went ahead and we (mostly) beat the rain. Even overcast weather doesn’t stop […]

Extended family shoots are great, and this one for 12 people, at Hall Place Bexley, is a perfect example of how lovely these can be. I was contacted as the Nanny had asked for photographs of the grandchildren for her birthday and I was delighted to take this wonderful families pictures. We started at the family home, their garden was beautiful and just perfect to get some formal group shots. Whilst my photography style is documentary, some people like some formal group shots, to make sure we have everyone in the shot that should be there, looking at the camera (hopefully!!) and their garden was just perfect for this. I quickly worked through a shoot list that saw grandparents with grandchildren, everyone together, adult siblings in a shot, and then individual family groups. After this part of the shoot, we grabbed our bags, I changed my camera lens, and we headed out for Hall Place Bexley. The afternoon was glorious, and the minute we were out of the car park I started snapping away. I love capturing images of families just standing and talking, these images speak volumes to me, and I got some great ones here. We walked through […]

Oreos for breakfast – sadly I kid you not. This term my teenagers, in years 10 and 8, have both decided they don’t want to get up at 6:30am for breakfast anymore. I’m not quite sure what to do about this as I’m a firm believer in picking my battles, and do I really...
