LEGO celebrate their 60th anniversary with a brand new hangout at Hamleys 16th – 18th March 2018

It was an early start for me yesterday morning as I was invited to attend Hamleys to be one of the first to see their brand new LEGO area, celebrating Lego’s 60th birthday. Hamleys have always had a great LEGO area, almost filling the 5th floor, and my visit today was full of surprises. New products have been launched and there are a lot of interactive things to really engage your children in this new hangout.

Upon arrival at the 5th floor, you will be welcomed to the newly refurbished area by LEGO built Royal Guards. There is so much to do and see, in this interactive area designed with children in mind. Some of my favourites include;

  •  A Minifigure Me! This is lots of fun, and had quite a few of us adults in stitches. You stand on the footprints, place your hand on a the scanner and wait while the machine tells you which figure you are! I watched this for quite a while and never saw the same figure twice! The smaller guests at the event loved this.
  • A hunt to find the LEGO crown jewels with the eminent Sherlock Holmes. This is great and children will follow the magnifying glasses hidden on the floor to a designated building area housing the crown jewels (this is quite spectacular)
  • A giant lego bus with a sign that changes depending on which way you view it (I won’t say too much as I don’t wish to spoil the surprise!) and a lego building space on the very back. This was just my favourite super sized lego structure, but there are many more to see.
  • A guard station – the perfect opportunity for a photo, an opportunity to build a structure that may get displayed in the display case with a special card for your name, and BUNDLES of building opportunities in brightly coloured, fabulous surroundings. One of the great things is that all ages are catered for, with a great duplo area for younger guests with places to sit on and building stations, right down low, and higher areas for older guests.

There were lots of new products to look at too, some released specially for the 60th anniversary and everyones favourites too. For me, I loved the London theme running throughout the area and in particular the architecture “London set” (21034) featuring our favourite landmarks like the London Eye. Londons iconic red bus is available in several different sizes in the Creator section. I’ve picked one of these up for my youngest and cant wait for him to build it this weekend.

Looking for something to do this weekend? Then head on down to Hamleys – you will not be disappointed. Hamleys have activities taking place from Friday 16th – Sunday 18th March 2018 to celebrate the opening of their new LEGO area. Activities include: Lego mascot character meet and greets, free give aways and up to 20% off selected LEGO products. At the bottom of this post is a voucher valid until 30/04/18 for £5 off when you spend £30 at Hamleys. cafe is situated right next to the new LEGO area so why not grab a cuppa too.
