Its all about Newborns this month!
I’ve never been tagged in so many newborn photography requests in all my working life!! This is fabulous and I’m so excited that so many wonderful little babies are being born or are due to be born in the coming weeks. I love photographing newborns and I take a “Lifestyle documentary” approach. I’ve had lots of clients come to me lately with second or third babies asking for a really relaxed session, one that can take part in the family home, and just, well, documents those early weeks or months of their precious new addition. These sessions fill me with joy – and yes – it has to be said, make me yearn for those bygone days! (Don’t panic Dan, I’m not getting any crazy ideas about increasing our head count to 6!).
What is newborn lifestyle/documentary photography? Well, I’m going to let the pictures speak for themselves here. Imagine I’m coming for a normal baby visit, except I’ll have my camera with me. I will start off with a chat with Mum and Dad in their living room, enjoy a cup of tea and then meet the latest addition before I even get my camera out. Documentary photography is just that: a document of those early days. We soon forget all those newborn nuances, those little moves, the way a foot suddenly stretches up, followed by a hand reaching for the sky. Their bottles, their dummies, their crib, their favourite baby blanket and baby’s favourite teddy (chosen by Mum and Dad of course!) can also feature to ensure your precious memories are documented before they disappear with each new stage of your little one’s life.
Unlike posed newborn photography, these sessions take place in the family home, they also do not include any props. Outfit changes part way through the shoot are very popular – babies get so many lovely clothes and parents can choose a couple of their favourite outfits for their baby to be photographed in.
There is no rush to book these sessions; newborn to me can be any number of weeks or months. I’m happy to photograph at any age – this is “no rules stuff” – there is no rush to book in before they are 14 days old. That said, my diary does get extremely full and what is becoming increasingly popular is parents booking their session ahead of their baby being born. This way we can pencil in a few dates and adjust when we know the baby has arrived.
Please do take a good look at my photographs,. I will put an entire album onto my Facebook page and a few of my favourites in this post!
Thanks for reading!
