Documentary extended family photoshoot Riverhill Himalayan Gardens, Sevenoaks Summer 2019

When M got in touch, looking for a documentary session, I was really pleased to be able to help. Having perfected my craft documenting my own family, I am quite happy to offer purely documentary sessions. If you are totally content to just let me be a “fly on the wall”, then this type of shoot is definitely for you.

During my regular family shoots, whilst I would still say these are 80% documentary, certain “situations” are introduced by me. For example, I will suggest that you sit in a certain place together, or stand in a certain area. I’ll often throw the whole family on the parents’ bed and photograph everyone messing around and jumping up and down (the kids that is, not the parents!!) so whilst I am still able to get natural photos, an element of direction by me is involved!

Pure documentary sessions are just that. I let the family do exactly what they want and am there to capture it.

M wanted such a session and I really enjoyed it. The children played with Mum and their grandparents and had a great time in the gardens. Having exclusive access, and much more time than I usually have as this was a full session, we were able to walk up to the top of the hill where the views are stunning. I loved getting pictures of Mara’s son on the flag pole (I have many similar images of my own children doing this) and also Mara with her daughter in the wild flowers that adorn the top of the hill.

If you’re interested in this type of shoot, all the information, including my pricing, can be found here.
